Gold Coast Vet Surgery is fully equipped with modern, quality equipment, enabling us to offer a full range of veterinary services for dogs, cats and small pets. Our premises are purpose built as a veterinary hospital with separate dog, cat and isolation wards, as well as a dedicated sterile operating theatre and separate dental suite. As part of our commitment to quality care, Gold Coast Vet Surgery only employs experienced and fully qualified vets and nurses, not trainees or students. Our staff are selected, not only for their stand out skills and experience, but most importantly for their compassion and love for animals.

We also stock a range of dog & cat treats, shampoos, dental chews, environmental enrichment toys and some grooming accessories such as combs and nail clippers. We also stock a number or flea & tick products as well as wormers and we’re more than happy to give you free, well informed advice as to which product suits your situation best.
Consulting Rooms
We have 3 spacious Consulting Rooms, each fully equipped to examine your pet with a minimum of fuss. We have intentionally avoided stainless steel exam tables that are cold, noisy and slippery, adding to an animals stress. Instead we have a quiet, non-slip surface on our solid built in exam tables, or quite simply we are happy to examine your pet on the floor if they are large, or simply more comfortable there! But we haven’t forgotten about owner comforts too with padded bench seats and convenient swing around monitors to show you x-rays or lab results on screen. We also have a special wifi camera connected to our microscope so that we can show you exactly what we are seeing.
Treatment Room
We have a centralised treatment room where most procedures start. It is here that your pet will have it’s blood samples collected or be placed on a drip. Most anaesthetics begin on one our work stations here and once stabilised the patient is transferred to where it needs to be – operating room, x-rays, dental etc. We also have our heated Intensive Care and Recovery cages here so that high need patients are closely monitored and always have a trained member of staff with them. Our fully equipped Pharmacy is also located in the Treatment Room.
Operating Theatre
You may not realise, but not all vet clinics have a dedicated, sterile Operating Theatre. At Gold Coast Vet Surgery cleanliness and sterility are a top priority in our operating theatre. Only clean, sterile operations are performed in this room, and all dirty or contaminated preparation is done on the prep bench before moving the patient into theatre. This room has it’s own special air-conditioning circuit and special filter so as not to transfer bacteria from other parts of the hospital into theatre. The windows cannot open and there are no unnecessary ledges where dust can gather. The room has positive pressure to further keep infection out. We have special surgical lights and state of the art patient monitoring equipment to keep your pet as safe as possible whilst they are under anaesthetic. A special hot water bed is used to keep patients warm, and yet prevent them from getting burned.
Imaging – X-Rays & Ultrasound
Gold Coast Vet Surgery was the first vet clinic on the Gold Coast to have digital x-rays. Since then our system has been upgraded again and we now have facilities for both regular body x-rays as well as specialised dental x-rays. Digital x-rays give us very detailed images for better diagnoses. They are also significantly quicker to process which means a shorter anaesthetic or sedation time for your pet and have the ability to make exact digital copies on CD for you to view at home or take to a specialist. Digital x-rays are also environmentally friendly since no chemicals are used in processing.
Ultrasound enables us to see into tissues, rather than simply seeing an outline of the organ on an x-ray. This enables us to better diagnose and manage many conditions, especially in urgent or emergency cases.
On-Site Laboratory
Gold Coast Vet Surgery has a full on-site Laboratory which means that most tests can be run in our clinic without having to send them away to an outside laboratory. This means that we can normally get your pet’s results within minutes and less time waiting for results means quicker treatment for your pet. Our laboratory includes the only fully automated Urine Analysis machine on the Gold Coast – having a machine perform these tests greatly reduces human error and results in more consistent and reliable results. We run a very strict monthly quality control process to ensure that results are always accurate and treatment decisions can be made based on scientific results, rather than guess work.
Dental
We have a strong focus on dental care with a fully equipped Dental Suite. All dental work is done under general anaesthetic to allow proper assessment of the teeth, and pain and stress free treatment. The dental suite has its own dedicated anaesthetic machine and monitoring equipment, as well as high speed dental drills, a heated patient bed and state of the art digital dental x-rays. All of our dental procedures include whole mouth x-rays as standard because so much of the painful dental disease in pets is below the gum line and is only evident on x-rays. Very importantly after all the cleaning, the teeth are polished with our high speed polisher to leave the tooth surface as smooth as possible to minimise future tartar accumulation.
Hospital Wards
We believe in housing our patients in clean comfortable kennels, with as much space as possible. Our kennels are made from a special medical grade fiberglass which is much quieter and warmer than stainless steel cages. We also have separate Dog & Cat Wards with additional soundproofing between them to avoid any stress between the two species. We have large walk in runs for our larger dogs, with glass fronted gates instead of jail like bars! We also have a special Isolation Ward for housing patients with infectious diseases – this ward is set up so that it’s airflow is under negative pressure to stop infection being pushed out to the rest of the hospital. Our wards are air-conditioned and heated in winter, with subdued lighting option, again to minimise stress.
Call us if you cannot find an available appointment online. Same day appointments are always made for critically ill animals.
